iTunes is a free application for Mac and PC. It plays all your digital music and video. It syncs content to your iPod, iPhone, and Apple TV. And it’s a store on your computer, iPod touch, iPhone, and iPad that has everything you need to be entertained. Anywhere. Here’s how to get started with iTunes and use it as a powerful media manager.

First, make sure that you have the latest version of iTunes on your computer. To download the latest version of iTunes, go to www.itunes.com/downloads.

Once you have installed iTunes, you can use it to purchase and download music, videos, apps, games, and more for your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or computer. iTunes 11 or later is required for use on a Mac with OS X Mavericks or later; and Windows 7 or later is required for Windows PCs.

On the left sidebar, click on your device’s icon.

On the left sidebar, click on your device’s icon. If you are using an iOS device, you will see a Summary tab with options to check for updates, restore your device, and more. Click on the Music tab. You will see options to Sync Music, Movies, TV Shows, Podcasts, and more. Depending on how you have iTunes set up, you may also see tones and books.

Click on the “Music” tab.

In iTunes, click on the “Music” tab in the left sidebar. Then, click on the “Add File to Library” button in the upper-left corner of the main iTunes window. A Finder (or Windows Explorer) window will open. Locate and select the music files you want to add to iTunes, then click “Open” to add them to your library.

Check the “Sync Music” option.

iTunes should open automatically when you connect your iPhone to your computer. If it doesn’t, open iTunes.

Click the device icon in the upper-left corner of the iTunes window.

Click “Summary.” It’s on the left side of the window. Doing so prompts a pop-out menu to appear.

Check the “Sync Music” option. It’s near the top of the pop-out menu. A checkmark will appear next to this option to indicate that it is selected.

Select the “Entire music library” or “Selected playlists, artists, and genres” option.

When you first open iTunes, you’ll be asked if you want to “Set up your music library now” or “Not now.” If you choose “Not now,” you can still import your music at a later time.

To import your music:
1) Open iTunes. If a message asks for permission to access the library, click “Yes.”
2) In the menu bar, click “File,” then “Add Folder to Library.”
3) Select the folder that contains the music you want to import, then click “Choose.” All the files in that folder will be added to your library.

Click the “Apply” or “Sync” button.
