Introduction
If you have music in your iTunes library that you want to take with you on a flash drive, it’s easy to do. You can’t just copy the files from the iTunes folder on your computer, though. That would give you a lot of extra files that aren’t the actual songs. Here’s how to get just the music files onto your flash drive so you can play them anywhere.
What you need
In order to move music from iTunes to a flash drive, you will need:
-A flash drive with enough storage to hold your iTunes library
-iTunes installed on your computer
Once you have gathered these materials, you will be ready to start moving your music!

Before you can transfer your music, you’ll need to format your flash drive so that it’s compatible with iTunes. To do this:
1. Connect your flash drive to your computer.
2. Launch iTunes.
3. Select “Preferences” from the “iTunes” menu.
4. Click the “Devices” tab.
5. Check the “Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically” box.
6. Click “OK.”
7. eject the drive from finder
Exporting your iTunes library
Exporting your iTunes library allows you to back up all of your music to a single location. You can then move the exported files to an external hard drive or a flash drive for safekeeping. If you ever need to restore your iTunes library, you can simply import the exported files.
To export your iTunes library:
1. Open iTunes.
2. On the left side of the iTunes window, click on the Library heading.
3. From the menu that appears, choose Export Library….
4. A window will pop up asking you where you would like to export your iTunes library. Choose a location and click Save.
5. Your iTunes library will now be exported as an XML file.
Importing your iTunes library to your flash drive
It’s really easy to get your iTunes library onto a flash drive. You just need to know where to look.
To find your iTunes library, go to your **Home** folder and then into **Music**. In the Music folder, you should see a folder called **iTunes**. If you don’t see this, it means that you haven’t yet set up iTunes on your computer.
Inside the iTunes folder, you should see a file called **iTunes Library.itl**. This is the file that contains all of your iTunes information — including everything in your music library.
To copy this file to your flash drive, all you need to do is drag and drop it onto the flash drive icon. Your iTunes library will now be safely copied onto your flash drive.
Copying your music files to your flash drive
One way to move your music from iTunes to a flash drive is by using the drag-and-drop method. This involves connecting your flash drive to your computer and then opening both the iTunes and the flash drive windows. Once both windows are open, navigate to your music library in iTunes. From there, you can either select all of the songs that you want to transfer by pressing “Ctrl-A” on your keyboard, or you can individually select the songs that you want to transfer by holding down “Ctrl” while you click on each song. Once you have selected all of the songs that you want to transfer, simply drag them from the iTunes window into the flash drive window. Your computer will then begin copying the files over to your flash drive.
Deleting duplicates
iTunes can sometimes create duplicates of songs when you sync your music library with an iOS device. If you want to free up space on your flash drive, you can delete these duplicate songs. Here’s how:
Open iTunes and go to your music library.
Click on the “Songs” tab to view all the songs in your library.
Click the “File” menu and select “Library > Show Duplicate Items.”
iTunes will now show you all the duplicate songs in your library. To delete a song, right-click on it and select “Delete.”
